Some people have been seeing something strange happening with Google lately. Lots of people, including myself, have seen all the links above the search field disappear and a drop down menu appears to the right of the search field. From the menu you can select if you want to search Web, Images, Groups, etc. It only happens briefly. When you refresh it is gone and back to normal. Could this be Google hinting at a sight redesign? I went to the CompUSA yesterday to talk to John (the Apple guy) and to my surprise they had already received the new 1.87 GHz Intel iMac complete with iLife '06 and all. It was noticeably faster than the previous iMacs. It took hardly any time at all to load all the iLife apps and iPhoto "scrolled like butter." I went back and forth between it and the Powermac Quad and I have to say I was stunned. I could tell any difference using the iMac vs. the Powermac. If anything the iMac felt faster, especially when browsing the web and using iLife applications. I also played around with iWeb for a while. It was very easy to use and the templates looked great. Dragging over photos from iPhoto was a breeze. I think that anyone could make a professional looking website with iWeb. Even my mom could sit down and begin using the program. Garageband was also very zippy and easy to use. All of the little "Jingles" and "Sound Effects" were great. It also made it east to make an enhanced podcast with chapters, multiple album art, and links. They did not have any games to test out, nor did they have Office installed so I did not get a chance to see how fast Rosetta is. No matter how inconvenienced individual users would be by a flag, pirates would be able to bypass it. The bill would usher in a new world of anti-consumer electronics, and a chance for the MPAA's and RIAA's member companies to seize even greater control over all media distribution and use."

So I did some investigating and got some good info. I asked a "Genius" at the Apple Store today about the estimated battery life would be on the new MacBook Pro. He said anywhere from 4-6 hours. Although, Macworld says: "Apple hasn’t given an official battery life rating to the new MacBook Pro, but told us it expects battery life to be similar to that of the current PowerBook line (which ranges from 4.5 to 5 hours). Apple says that the MacBook Pro’s new, thin lithium-polymer battery is state-of-the-art, and that the Core Duo chip that powers the MacBook pro is roughly comparable to the power consumption of a G4 chip, or slightly higher. The MacBook Pro also has a much brighter screen than previous models, and that screen may negatively effect its battery life as well." I would hope that you could get at least five hours. We will know for sure as soon as reviewers get there hands on them in February.

On Thursday there was apparently an accidental site change to Apple's website. There was apparently text talking about iLife '06 and it's features. There was a link to a new feature called iWeb. Ok. So Macworld begins Monday and everyone has their theory on what Apple is going to release. I have said in the past that I believe they will release the first Intel power Mac, along with the new version of iLife. I have been thinking a lot about Apple calling the new 5G iPod the: "iPod" or "iPod WITH video" and I am starting to think that they might, in addition to an Intel Mac, release a new iPod with much improved video capabilities. I personally just got the new iPod and I like it a lot. I don't mind the 2.5 inch screen, because I watch video only as a "Secondary" thing. On the other hand, some people watch lots of video. Most likely it would be people that commute on public transportation or people that fly a lot. I admit that the screen does start to feel a little to small when used for long amounts of time. There is also the issue of the low battery life. You only get 2 hours of video playback on the 30Gb model and still only 3 hours with the 60GB model. There are lots of rumors out there. No one really knows for sure. Let's just wait and see.
When I first saw the title for this on digg I thought: "No Way!! Ha ha ha!!" After reading this, it seams as though this might be a possibility. I still think they will introduce an Intel Mac, but this could be another one of those "One More Thing" deals.

I'm sorry that I haven't posted a lot of new lately. I was also taking a break around the holidays. January is a big month in tech news, so I will have a lot to post about. First, there is CES the 5th through the 8th. Then there is Macworld the 9th through the 13th. So I will probably start posting on Thursday and possibly do a podcast that week. I might also do a Video Podcast as a test. I borrowed a webcam from my friend Adam that looks pretty good.
